Salary: £30,559 per annum pro rata – NJC Point 18 to 22 (Actual £12,223.60 -£13,061.60 per annum)

Hours: 14 hours per week 

Position based in Coventry 

BHA for Equality is a leading health and social care charity that works to challenge health inequalities and delivers a range of services to support individuals, families & communities to improve their health & well-being.   

Across Coventry and Warwickshire, BHA provides a range of activities to reduce inequalities in sexual health, especially for people from Black and minoritised ethnic groups, or from the LGBTQ+ community.  

We have an exciting opportunity to develop a peer support service for people diagnosed with HIV through opt-out emergency department testing in Coventry.  We’re looking for someone to use their own lived experience of HIV to provide support, information and advice, and onward referrals.  

Using your lived experience, you will provide one-to-one peer support to people diagnosed with HIV, within clinical and community settings.  You will also manage a small team of volunteer peer mentors to provide ongoing support and ensure people receive practical and emotional support.   

You will need: 

  • Lived experience of HIV  
  • Experience of working with people from marginalised communities and people who experience multiple disadvantage 
  • Be solution focused and proactive, with excellent communication skills and an ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with service users, volunteers and other professionals. 
  • Knowledge of the welfare, housing and support services locally 

 

The role will involve: 

  • Working co-productively with people living with or affected by HIV. 
  • Supporting people with the tools they need to self-manage. 
  • Ensuring that all services delivered are easy to access, understandable and easy to navigate. 
  • Delivering high quality support, using insight to continuously improve how we work. 
  • Advocacy and liaison with other providers and services. 
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the best outcomes for people living with HIV. 
  • Working in accordance with BHA’s policies and procedures
