Voluntary Action Coventry Transforming Volunteering in Coventry

From seed planting and willow weaving to search and rescue, community spirit is high in Canley. A Community Fair, organised by Voluntary Action Coventry, is taking place on Tuesday 12 March, 11am – 2.30pm. Canley Community Centre will see 15 charities come together for a day of social action. The good causes are inviting local residents to find out more about amazing opportunities to get support, have fun or make a difference on their doorstep.

The Community Fair is a chance for the people of Coventry to meet the charities and a enjoy free cream tea as they try out ‘have-a-go’ activities. Organisations from across the city have organised free activities that showcase the work done and services provided by voluntary organisations to inspire people to get involved in their local area.

Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind is running interactive blindfold challenges to give a brief insight into the challenges of living with vision impairment or complete blindness. Warwickshire Search and Rescue will run an incident control unit demo to outline the ways in which they undertake searches for missing, vulnerable people. From willow weaving and seed bomb making, to food and craft, music, storytelling, quizzes and prize draws, there’s a huge range of things to try that offer a taste of what it’s like to use community services or help their cause by volunteering.

Sue Ogle, CEO, Voluntary Action Coventry said:

Our Community Fair at Canley is the second of a series of six events happening across the city this Spring. There are some incredible voluntary roles available that can bring real meaning and purpose to an individual’s life, as well as benefitting your local community. We’re sharing funds across the sector and providing the support to enable Coventry people to reach out and make a difference.
